Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Gives Lieutenant Colonel Stevens specific instructions for organizing and gathering men and weapons at New Windsor, Peekskill, and West Point, New York. "From the frequent communications to you of my intentions & desires, you will be able to execute the business with precision." Refers to the preparations being made by other officers in the vicinity. Reports that final orders may be expected the following day. Contains some mathematical figures on page four.
