At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses arrangements made with General Ezekiel Cornell (a member of the Board) regarding the transportation of cannon and stores from Pennsylvania (to the Hudson River near West Point). Notes that William Price and Captain Mitchell will handle additional stores that are to be forwarded to the area.

The powder and cannon which you mention being at Boston were applied for by his Excellency the Commander in chief...the arrangement which I made with General Cornell for the periods of the transportation of the Stores & Cannon to Pennsylvania perfectly agrees with the ideas of his Excellency General Washington as signified to me on the 2d instant. if he should think proper to make any alteration I shall take the earliest opportunity of communicating it to you.
