Written from Head Quarters. No addressee is listed, but likely written to Henry Knox. Writes that "Mr. Cornell and Mr. Wadsworth have commenced a treaty, which I hope will terminate in the latter's taking up the Contracts of the whole Army - Mr. Wadsworth wishes to do every thing that the Army can reasonably repeat, and for that purpose desired to be made acquainted with every particular relating to the business, before he enters upon it - I took the liberty of suggesting, that no persons could be so well qualified to judge of the defects of the old contract, as officers who had immediately superintended the issues to their respective commands and Corps. To this he and Mr. Cornell readily acquiesced, and said they should be happy to meet Gentlemen from the several lines upon that subject, not as a regular and formal board, but to talk the matter over as Friends to the rights of the officers and soldiers, having a due regard to the public interest - The Gentlemen we nominated were yourself - Col. H Jackson - Col Swift - Col Olney - Col Courtland and Col Barber- The General very much approves the plan and wishes you to meet the other Gentlemen here tomorrow morning as early as tide and circumstances will permit."
