Writes to John Moylan, the Clothier General, that the "troops in this department are reduced to one regiment of Infantry of 500 rank and file, and one corps of artillery." Has enclosed a return of the articles necessary to clothe the men for the year. Asks him to procure these items and send them to West Point, to Colonel H. [likely Henry] Jackson for the infantry and to Major [Sebastian] Bauman for the artillery. Also discusses the structure and size of the departments; may be referring to the commissary department.

The troops in this department are reduced to one regiment of Infantry of 500 rank and file, and one corps of artillery & [struck: about] - I enclose a return of articles which are wanted to complete their [clothing] for this year, and request that you would have the [goodness] to use every [strikeout] [inserted: exertion] in your power to [struck: forward them on] to procure and forward them on to this place, to Colonel H Jackson, or officer commanding for the infantry, and to Major Bauman for the Artillery;
As every [inserted: possible] reduction [struck: is to be] [inserted: is later] made to save expense, I have [struck: advised] [inserted: directed] Mr D Brooks [struck: to write to you] to make an immediate [struck: reduction] [inserted: discharge] of his clerks and other persons employed under him except such as [those be] absolutely necessary for closing the business, and I have advised him for that purpose, to deliver the shoes and other small articles for the current year for the respective payments which would [struck: make an] enable him to close his business [struck: almost immediately] without loss of time
I requested [inserted: him] to write to you [to know] [2] by what means these articles, or such of them as [are not] in store can be [furnished] in future - I will thank you to inform the commanding officer of this post [respecting this subject] and forward a duplicate to me at Boston -
