Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox that he will be passing through Knox's garrison with his own regiment and asks for Knox's advice concerning traveling down a river. Also tells Knox that "Col. Frank Barber of the Jersey Line was yesterday afternoon Kille'd [sic] dead on the spot, by the fall of a tree as he was going home to diner [sic] his horse was kill'd also."
