Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informing Captain Lieutenant Fenno that General Henry Knox is sending them a lock and key for the magazine to prevent further loss of goods and theft. Also notes that Knox would like a return of all of the stores as well, to keep track of what they have at Verplanck's point and what they need.
