At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Document specifying the number of persons, days, and rations issued for the engineers at West Point from 1 March to 8 March. A total of 16 persons (from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Connecticut Regiments and the 3rd Artillery - as well as 1 hired mason) were used for the 8 days. A total of 192 rations were issued. Signed by Major Shaw as Knox's aide-de-camp and Joseph Chasman as superintendent. Docket signed with an illegible signature.
