Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Finck, Major Commanding, New York State Regiment, issues one hundred and sixteen extra rations of provisions to an officer commanding a flag and his escort, from the British garrison at Oswego. Includes an endorsement signed by Immanuel Deake(?) stating the rations were received from the contractor for the states of New York and New Jersey.
