Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

List of extra rations issued at West Point. A total of 1,021 and 1/2 extra rations were provided in August 1783. The groups that received rations included: army prisoners, men on garrison fatigue duty, the engineering department, police officers of the garrison, Indians, the Commander in Chief's bargemen, discharged persons, General Huntington's bargemen, and artillery artificers.
