At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox that he will leave for New York, then West Point, and will make arrangements to travel to Canada (Hull was assigned by Knox to attempt to acquire information from the Commander of British forces in North America).

Although John Campbell served as British Commander in Chief of North America 1783-1787, Knox refers to Frederick Haldimand as Commander in Chief (refer to GLC02437.03019). In fact, Haldimand was Governor of the Province of Quebec 1778-1786.
