Mentions a letter Knox sent him concerning Colonel Hull. Writes about obtaining cloth to cloath the men raised by the state. Informs him that at the last meeting of the Society of the Cincinnati, General R. Putman, Major N. Rice and Dr. Eustis were chosen as delegates, and 13 others were chosen as a grand Committee to instruct the delegates. Also mentions the election for the Massachusetts governorship. "Politicks runs high for Governor and Lt Governor as you will observe by the papers - it is generally believed that Mr. Hancock will be chosen - tomorrow [week?] will determine the question - all parties appear to have taken sides, it will be the greatest contest ever known of the occation [sic]." Ends by discussing an account with Mr. Bruce to supply rations.

My dear Harry
Your favor of the 18th inclosing one for Colo. Hull I recd. last night by the post. - altho the word first added to Colo. Hull in the certificate which I forwarded to you appeared to be inserted after the list was made out, it was exactly as it came out of the Secretarys hands to me - and was considered as an official paper in which the Commissions were to be Issued - I am so satisfied as to the intentions of the Govenour and Council in this head, that any papers that may be necessary in the War office to establish Hull as first, they will readily execute them -
The paper which I presented to [inserted: the] Court I sent you a Copy of last week by that you will observe that I have not in the [inserted: least] committed you, I know your situation is peculiarly delicate, and you may rest secure that no transaction of mine [in view] unless you may request it - I herewith inclose you the Resolve of the State which my [2] my application produced, & by that you will observe that the £2,500 granted some time since - by the consent and advice of the Governour, I have published for a Contract to Cloath 300 Men raised by this State, which you will observe in the News Papers, inclosed you by this post - If I have gone too fast, it is from my zeal, not the least design to interfere in any department whatever - I therefore wish you to obtain such authority for me, as will place this business in the proper channel -
at our last annual meeting of the Cincin, the following gentlemen were chosen delegates to the General convention - Viz - Genl R. Putnam - Major N. Rice & Doctr. Eustis - at the same time we chose a grand Committee consisting of thirteen to Instruct the Delegates - on Wednesday next the Grand Committee are to [3] are to meet on the business of their appointment - it is said that Genl: Putnam, & Major Rice will not be able to go on if this is the case, the Committee will feel themselves authorised to appoint others in their Room - General Lincoln is in the County of Berkshire, and I suppose will remain there for some time to come, if it is Possible for him to attend he will be certainly Choosen - I flatter myself we shall send a [good] representation - money will be wanted to defray their expenses. This will be an objection with many of our best members - I will attend to the Diplomas & put it in a proper [train] -
Politicks run high for Governour & Lt Governour as you will observe by the papers - it is generally believed that Mr. Hancock will be chosen - tomorrow week will determine the question - all parties appear to have taken sides, it will be the greatest [4] greatest contest ever known of the occation - Mr. H. informed me yesterday he should set out for New York on Thursday next - but I think it will not be so early -
I wish the Contracts were completed with respect to subsisting the Troops, or that myself or some other person here was authorized to do it, for at present Mr. Bruce supplies me with Rations &c without ascertaining any particular price - I have [struck: advanced] [inserted: paid] him with orders on the Collections for the hard money Tax £750. £my, and the amount of his supplies is about £900 - we stand at an expence of £12..0 pr. day - Mr. B - agreed to furnish his Ration on the same terms that the Board of Treasury Contracted with any persons -
my love to Lucy and the Children -
I am your truly affectionate
