Relates his desire to remain Inspector General instead of Major Winthrop Sargent, who was being considered. Commenting on Congress's resolve to disband the troops, he states, "The resolve of Congress has murdered more honest fellows..."

[draft]
My dear Sir,
I had the honor to receive your letter of the 11th & am under very great Obligations for your attention to my interests. If I can with honor (with respect to Major Sargent) I could wish the [Inspectorship] might be again in my hands, at least that I should be considered as Inspector until I have the honor to see & converse with you.
The resolve of Congress has murdered more honest fellows, - pardon me my dear Genl, I can [2] not write, For my own part I feel nothing, but for Phelon, Frilly, Freeman & twenty others I feel too much to say anything.
believe me to be with the greatest respect
