Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Duplicate copy of GLC02437.03534. Receipt of two warrants from Henry Knox numbered 135 and 136 draw by the Board of Treasury respecting continental taxes for the state of Connecticut. Warrant No. 135 is related to the resolve of Congress dated 20 October 1786, concerning raising troops that were used to quell Shays' Rebellion.
