Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Influenced by an ardent zeal for the honor of the Society of the Cincinnati, I beg leave to request the attention of the Members of the State Society of to the assessment made by the last general meeting for the balance directed to be paid to Major LEnfant.
Information has been received that some of the state societies have completed their
collections but in no instance has the quota of any state been received by
