Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses shares and shareholders of the Ohio Company. Encloses a pamphlet (not included but possibly related to GLC02437.03815), and asks Knox to forward it to Platt. Month and day are given; year is written in pencil at a later date.

Sargent was a delegate to the Massachusetts convention which ratified the Federal Constitution in February 1788. He was appointed Secretary of the Ohio Company and Secretary of the Northwest Territory in 1787.
