Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks Knox for a recommendation in obtaining a position in "the Collection of the Revenue in this Port." Notes he was a lieutenant under the command of Henry Jackson during the War. Asks Knox to refer to Jackson's opinion of Rickard's service. Place writ noted as "Washington/Port Bath/North Carolina."
