At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Acknowledges receipt of Thomas's letter of 13 April 1791. Knox writes, "I have always conceived your proposition relative to your note to Mr. Flucker to be [equitable]," and that he himself would not hesitate to accept it. He has written to William Duer on the matter. Hopes there will be no legal impediment to accepting the offer. Signature clipped.
