Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

List of items that Knox sent to his son Henry Knox at Princeton, New Jersey. The items include: two morning gowns, one white waistcoat and breeches, and one nankeen. Sent nine books useful in a classical education. Also sent a green satchel and some apples. List is not in Knox's handwriting. Two additions to list and docket are in Knox's hand.
