At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

References Randall's letter from 16 June (GLC02437.05001) and discusses specific financial notes. Also mentions $5,000 worth of drafts that William Duer has received. Says he does not want to inconvenience Randall and that Duer will make arrangements for payment. Asks Randall to keep this affair to himself.
