Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Mentions he will be detained until tomorrow or the next day. Does not expect to get home until Saturday, but will do his best to get there by Friday. Says their boys are in high spirits and that Harry is gratified by his new long coat, "which is of an excellent blue cloth breeches of the same and tow half wais[t]coats."
