Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

References Knox's letter of 8 August. Says the Eastern committee will be together tomorrow or the next day. Notes he will attend to the other million acres and a conditional agreement respecting the four townships. Reports "the Winslows will never sell on such terms as you can afford to purchase, or can make any advantage from them, for they hold these lands in the highest estemation." Will keep in view the possible sale of lands on the sea coast of Passanquady. Furnished Joseph Peirce with blank transfer forms. States he has received some items from his sister Mrs. Flucker [Knox's sister-in-law] and says they will be sent by the first ship to Philadelphia. Says he is going with David Cobb to meet John Hills in Watertown as they previously agreed.
