Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports that he will sail to London in ten days and wants to have his interest in the Kennebeck Company defined. Adds, "Duer being now with you may I request that you will forward me some sort of memorandum for my share in that Concern." Would have written to Duer on this subject, but has not received an answer to his last three letters to him. Stamped "FREE" on verso.
