Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Is making preparations for the second edition of his American Geography textbook. Would like to make this edition as accurate as possible, so would like to obtain from Knox any new geographical information. Also asks him to review several passages in the current edition of his book to check for accuracy. Discusses the geography of the territories in the American frontier, specifically in the Ohio region. Describes his patriotic motives for compiling his geography. Stamped "FREE."
