Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Thanks him for his recent letter, which contained information on Mr. [Richard] Soderstrom's desire to purchase land in Maine. Also acknowledges the benefits of Mr. Russell's involvement with the purchase. Hopes Tudor will continue assisting them with their purchase by negotiating with the Committee. Provides extensive suggestions about how best to negotiate with the Committee. Also asks for a map of the lands in question.
