Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Dr. Eustis that there is an opening for a Chief Military Surgeon. Explains the pay and benefits, and offers him the position. Asks that if he is interested, he comes to Philadelphia as soon as possible. Declares that he has Knox's full support and will likely be able to get the job if he wants it.
