Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Indenture contract between Samuel Ogden and Henry Knox. Includes the details of their arrangement, particularly regarding finances and the purchase of townships. Similar to GLC02437.05477, but with much more detail. Document mentions Robert Morris and Gouverneur Morris. Signed by Samuel Ogden and Henry Knox, as well as two witnesses.
