Marked "Private." Discusses the reception of Andrew Allen, a former colonial governor, who had recently returned to the U.S. Replies to Washington's letter of (see GLC02437.09426) that Allen has indeed been welcomed in Philadelphia, and that Knox dined with him recently. Also reports that his wife recently gave birth to a daughter. Signed "HK."

My dear Sir Philadelphia 29th Septr 1792

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your private letter of the 24th.
Mr Andrew Allen, ([struck: the brother of Mrs] Penn [struck: and] who came out with Mr & Mrs Penn) [inserted: and who is brother of the latter.)] has been well received. Previously to his return a pardon, or the reversal of the attainder, was [struck: from] obtaned from the Governor, under the seal of the State. [struck: He is therefore received in to society apparently with great esteem and an entire obliteration of his former conduct] [inserted: He appears to be esteemed] and [inserted: his former conduct entirely obliteratd.] I dined in company with him a[struck: t] few days ago [with Mr] the Hazlehursts with a large [struck: company] [inserted: party]. I thank you for your kind [inquiry] after Mrs Knox was brought about on the 16th instant of a daughter, [strikeout] she [struck: proposes to set out] [inserted: hopes to be well enough to set out on her] return about the 10th of next month.
