Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Contains two letters, written in the same hand. The first, from FitzSimons to Hodgdon, informs Hodgdon that his business has been referred to a committee of the House of Representatives and will be discussed on 19 November. The second portion is from Hodgdon to FitzSimons, acknowledging the above infformation.
