Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Copy of three different notes. The first, by Colonel Darke, discusses the condition of arms and gunpowder. The second, by Major [Gunther?] discusses the condition of equipment, arms and horses. The third, by Mr. Bines, mentions clothing and shoes for the troops. Docketed by Knox as "Notes handed me by Mr. [Thomas] Fitzsimons, 23 November 1792." Signer of the Constitution.
