Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Initialled by Knox. Forwards papers related to the Winslow portion of the Waldo patent. Also encloses the correspondence he has had with Nathan Lane. Sends along Waldo's will, which was proved on 28 October 1785, and Hannah Flucker's letter of attorney dated 23 July 1784 (none of these papers are included). Says "It is extremely important to me to complete immediately the purchase of this estate if it can be done with due security to myself." Believes Lane and Winslow are in Boston to complete the deal. Wants Lewis to deal with his questions as quickly as possible. For the questions, see GLC02437.05907.
