Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Claims to be a distant relative of Knox's from Dublin, Ireland. Says he is acquainted with William Knox, whom he met in Ireland. Tells Knox about his situation in Jamaica, where he is trying to better his life and support his family. Goes into his family background. Asks about possible employment.
