Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox he recently moved and did not receive his letter until last Monday. Discusses a land patent his father owned in Kentucky and the various parties involved in the patent. Mentions problems with the land due to the location of timber and water. Describes recommendations he made to his father regarding splitting the land in Kentucky. Discusses other land deals made by people throughout the country. City is not listed.
