Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses business and politics within the towns of the Waldo Patent. Believes the outcome of a court proceeding will be favorable but still advises Knox to visit for a short time to appease the people after the proceedings. Mentions hearing of a gentleman named Ely spreading rumors about Knox. Says Knox is rumored to be in extreme poverty and "about to leave the world."
