Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Sends his greetings to Knox and all of his friends in America, including Alexander Hamilton. Refers to America as "notre chere Columbia." Hopes sentiments haven't changed despite the turmoil in France. Transmits two pamphlets (not included).

Miranda's full name is Francisco Sebastián de Miranda y Rodríguez de Espinosa, but is most commonly known as Francisco de Miranda.
