Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Lincoln encloses papers related to the agreement made with Thomas Winthrop "in the appointment of appraisers in Robt Houston Esqr. George Ulmer Esquire Mr. Charles Vaughan and Docr. Samuel Coleman." Lincoln says nothing is needed from Knox now until he comes up to "have the Land run out in Bangor" and approve an oath taken by the aforesaid gentlemen.
