Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs them that Mrs. [Sarah Lyons] Beaumez's son, Francis Flucker, was appointed by the British government and is serving in India and that her other son, Thomas Flucker, is a midshipman on his way to the West Indies. Continues to discuss the Flucker's and their future plans. Letter is not signed but appears to be in Knox's hand.
