Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses a land deal between himself, John Miller, and Henry Knox. Appears Miller gave Moulton a mortgage deed for a lot of land which resides on Knox's patent as security for a debt he owed Moulton. Moulton now requests Knox gives him a deed for that lot in Moulton's name. Written from "Buckston" which is likely in Maine.
