At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Letter is not signed but appears to be in Knox's handwriting. A letter from Henry Knox to the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regarding Joseph Jones' petition. Knox appears to be seeking help from the government for Joseph Jones and Benjamin Bartlett whose barns and goods were burnt down by the insurgents in Maine. Letter is possibly a draft.
