Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Did not want to write to Knox since he expected Knox to return soon to Thomaston, but has found out from his mother that Knox has no fixed date of return, so he wanted to update him. Mentions that the carpenter he hired to build the store never arrived, but Henry Jackson Knox has gotten the construction underway. Describes the timber he has cut and collected, as well as financial and shipping arrangements.
