Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Document contains two sections. The first section, written on 22 September, is a contract in which Daggett agrees to transport George Kennard's cargo to Mr. John Hancock in Boston. Daggett signs this portion. The second section, written on 24 September, and signed by Kennard, further clarifies the arrangement with Daggett.
