Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Provides a list of payments issued to various commissioned and non-commissioned officers under Colonel Knox's command for "Sundries." The payments were made by Thomas Mifflin, the Quartermaster General. Mifflin's secretarial signature is found on page 13. The same names appear over and over. The total pay out was for £3,031.1.1 3/4, spanning from 16 November 1775 to 2 October 1776. Docketed by Henry Knox as "Colonel Henry Knox."
