Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Edes was one of founders and owners of the Boston Gazette and Country Journal. Edes billed Knox for advertisements in the newspaper. Items being sold included sealing wax, books, and a chaise. The total account came to £12.16.8. Edes signed the document noting payment was made.
