At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Agreement continuing the partnership between Thomas Flucker and Joseph Palmer in a spermecetti manufacturing business as their original agreement from 1763 is about to expire. Consent to slight alterations in their agreement. Signed by both Flucker and Palmer. A note on the bottom, dated 20 February, 1770, in Boston, declares that "The above continuation of our partnership is wholly settled this Day" and is signed by Palmer.
