Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Document is not signed but appears to be in Knox's handwriting. Noted as a copy on the docket. Appears to be a land agreement involving Henry Knox, Samuel Winslow, and Isaac Winslow in Frankfort, Maine. Instructions are also given to Colonel Benjamin Shute for protecting the above mentioned names property rights. Two inserts are included.

It is unclear whether the Isaac Winslow of this document is the younger Isaac (1763-1806), who is Samuel's brother, or their elder cousin (1743-ca. 1792/3)."
