Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports on the plans and whereabouts of the insurgents on the Waldo patent who have attacked and threatened Henry Knox's surveyors. The report was written for the surveyors, in order to help them avoid attack. A number of names are written on the bottom half of the page, appearing to be the names of those suspected to be insurgents.
