Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Also signed by Captain Patten. Lists captains, amount of rations, and number of days receiving rations. Shaw signs as aide-de-camp to Henry Knox at West Point. Patten signs a note on verso listing absentees. Covers March 13-16. Sergeant George Groom signs on verso, confirming receipt of rations.
