Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses affairs dealing with the heirs of a property, most likely the Waldo Patent. States that "the proprietors of that Town are going to run the streets ... The Waldo Patent was an area of land in what is now the U.S. state of Maine belonging to General Samuel Waldo, the grandfather of Lucy Knox.
