Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses financial situation in regards to taxes and the Waldo patent, a tract of land Knox inherited by marriage in present-day Maine. Mentions possibly making a trip out to the patent, but is uncertain whether or not he will be able to go and that he "would greatly prefer the addition to Voses house but ... know[s] not whether he can get another, neither [does he] know whether it would be agreable [sic] to him."
