At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 75,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Signed by both Jackson and Shaw. Covers Jackson's account with Henry Knox, "part of which time Genl. Arnolds Family lived with Genl Knox..." Notes differentiation between [New] "York" money, Pennsylvania currency, and dollars. Items Jackson purchased include eggs, fowls, ducks, shoes, butter, etc. Includes charges made for washing, and loans to Knox.
