Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Report of a board convened at West Point, for the inspection of the invalids of the army, agreeable to a general order of 14 September 1783. Lists the names of the men, age, regiment, disease, time to left to serve, if they were discharged, and remarks. Signed by M. Jackson, Colonel, two other majors, and two hospital surgeons.
